My today's post is about my inspiration. My designs for my best pieces are inspired by Russian ornaments (I wrote about it before, here), as well as the technique. This next picture shows how the inspiration worked:

However, only when I saw that knife from the top picture (the picture is from "The world of knives" book that I bought in Russia) I realized that I could do two layers of piercing. It was going to be double work, but I had time. This is how (sometimes) inspiration is being searched for. Not a simple process! :)

I started my jewellery making adventure with working with the seed beads long time ago. Ever since I started working with metal I try to involve the beads into my designs. I think they add something special into the look... especially 24k gold plated beads like these. They are Japanese made, high quality and very uniform looking just like real luxury granulation technique made by very few modern goldsmiths.
I've made a few pairs just to see if others are going to feel the same about them... They are available in my Etsy shop:

I wish for summer... this is obvious... :) This pendant will work with many different outfits. I created two styles to show how versatile it can be despite its unique design.

This tint of gray seems to be in Etsy treasuries' trend. Everybody makes treasuries with the gray-bluish pictures. Well, if it helps the exposure... why not?
However, if you are interested in real colours... I have them too :)
This Maple Leaf necklace is made of sterling silver. The front side of the top (the smaller) leaf is gilded with a thick 24k gold leaf with the keum-boo technique. The leaves are double-sided.

I have stayed in Russia for a few month with my mother a few years ago (those months will always be in my heart). My life was quiet and rather lazy, I should admit. I really did not have much to do. Lots of time to think of jewellery and come up with some new designs. Lots of sketching and drawing... Visiting my old University friend, who stayed at home with her new baby at that time... This maple leaf design was her idea. I liked it... and created it when I went back to Canada (did not have any tools in Russia). This maple leaf will always remind me of Russia, my happy months I spent there with my mom and my friend Lena.
The leaf is not OOAK, I made a mould and can cast it. So, I do not mind selling as many as there are people there who would like to have it :) In fact, this one is for sale at my etsy shop right now :)

Some time ago I wondered if I would ever make jewellery with sentimental value... a story behind it... Now I can tell a story about almost any piece of jewellery that I make. These earrings, for example, have those little faceted green chalcedony beads. I am looking at them and recalling the day I bought them in Russia... They told me it was apatite :) I did not believe them and estimated the price for the enhanced chalcedony. The price was right, the colour was gorgeous... I bought them :)
The crystal glass in the picture has a sentimental value too. I remember how we bought them with my mother. Many years after I brought them to Canada with me in a purse... all six of them... I was very careful :)
The glass does not come with the earrings, by the way :)

Before I've returned to etsy as a seller, I had researched some ideas on taking well staged pictures. In one of my previous posts I have already mentioned my vintage book that makes a good background for the pictures. Today I would like to tell a story of this Russian wooden bottle.
It is at least as old as I am... that makes it vintage... (does it make me "vintage" too? :) I remember it as long as I remember myself, and it already looked like that - old. So, it must be older then...
This humble bottle was used by me... I was keeping my little treasures... one of them was Canadian one cent coin. We had no idea where it had come from! There was no Canadian currency available in the Soviet Union... but I had that coin... it is still a mystery. Now this humble vintage bottle is a great background for Canadian maple leaves :) This bottle has a mind of its own, that's all I can say!

One of my first finds on Etsy was the Russian Artists team. I just have to mention them, as it was a really great find! When I have decided to be an active part of Etsy, I had no idea where to start. They had all necessary information and even more! Very friendly and helpful team.
They also have a great blog that is open for help for a newbie. The blog is in English, by the way ;) It has tons of useful information, no wonder they have so many followers! They write about their members, about the green living, recipes, patterns, giveaways ;) and more. The latest giveaway that they are hosting is mine (it is still not too late to participate in it ;) These silver earrings are going to somebody at the end of this month!

This Fall necklace was not made "yesterday". As it happens sometimes, its time just has not come until now. The smaller leaf has a color of a vintage book as well as dry leaves lost by the trees in autumn. The metal of it is nothing special, though rear. It is so called white bronze with patina.
This piece is one of a kind because of this. Another one can be done with gold, or brass, with or without patina, but no white bronze again and no "vintage book" patina :)
