Australian boulder opal for an Art Nouveau necklace
Thursday, June 26, 2014
More stones from my Ebay hunt! This is a boulder opal from Australia that I am planning to use for an Art Nouveau necklace.
Well, I remember when we walked in a fancy opal store in Melbourne's downtown, I looked at the boulder opals there... The cheapest was $40.00 for a stone that I would not even pick up for free if found it in a desert (ok, maybe for free and only because they were laying in a desert... great desert souvenir!) Something like this was about $200.00 in that store. Ebay and Etsy is a much better place to buy gems directly from the lapidary artists! :)

What jewelry to wear with a red dress
Wednesday, June 25, 2014
This is one of the questions women ask google. I can totally imagine why! Red dress is hard to pair with jewelry. It is too bright and too bold on its own. A bit easier for me to do, as I have lots of jewelry and can estimate what jewelry would go with a red dress, then find a dress that matches it the best.
Big netted black earrings with Swarovski crystals could go with a red dress that does not need a necklace, just like this one:
Bright red dress is brighter than a possible gold chain. It could go with a huge gold bold costume chain necklace or no necklace at all, but gold metal earrings with big Swarovski crystals:
Gold jewelery is not that great for a red dress with a tint of pink. Swarovski silver earrings will make a good match for it:
Pendant necklace (as well as the earrings) will look great on a simple dark red dress. I would say, it is hard to find a dress that allows an elegant pendant. Use this opportunity whenever you can!

Fun dress can go with a fun necklace! Dress it up with gold or dress it down with silver:

There is a lot of blue in this red! It is more dark pink than red color. It also has a V-neck. A big silver pendant with a sapphire blue stone will make a perfect match for a dress like that:
Some dresses come bejeweled already. No need to wear a necklace or earrings with it. Dresses like that are for women who love bold cocktail rings!

Should you wear silver and gold together?
Tuesday, June 24, 2014
Believe it or not, but people still ask this question! Silver and gold together used to be a big "no-no". It is still for some people.
Well, if you strictly believe in this rule, you should stick to it! Why not? If it makes you comfortable to wear only one metal at a time, this is your choice! And your style. Style is more important than fashion, after all (this is my personal opinion).
However...
If you like staying tuned to fashion, mix the metals! Mixing metals is fun :) This is one of the ways to make your outfit visually interesting without adding too much color... an elegant way.
Should you mix your jewelry made of different metals? Yes! They do not need to match, they need to go together. You can also get jewelry that is already made of mixed metals! Many designers love making mixed metals jewelry :)

Larimar from my gem collection for the Ocean Jewellery line
Thursday, June 19, 2014
I have a couple of cute larimar stones. Both of them are probably going to be used for the Ocean Life collection of one of a kind necklaces. I tried to design something a little bit different from what I usually design for that collection. I did not exactly like it at first... but it is growing on me, I think :)

I continue my virtual collection of the jewelry boxes. Isn't this an amazing box? I love carved wooden objects and always notice them, looking through the details... I have not seen anything like it before.

Do people buy jewelry online often? How much do they spend?
Monday, June 16, 2014
I've learned a bit since I had started selling jewelry online. I am still learning. It is not as simple as one might think... I am always happy when I come across any useful information on the subject.
Once I've come across a few tables with the research results by Tatiana Nlivajko. There were no conclusions with the tables, so I asked if I could publish her tables with my own conclusions. She gave me permission. I will try to keep it sweet and short here :)
Do people buy jewellery online?
Good news! (for me) More than 50% people buy jewellery online!
What is the age of people who buy jewellery online?
We jewellers suppose to consider the age of people who we make the product for. So, good to know, that if I want to increase my chances for my online sales, then I should make jewellery for women 30 to 39 y.o.
How much would they spend on jewellery per year? If we consider their income we might get information we are looking for...
I think this table gives me a better idea. Now I know that most people spend less than $200.00 per year. If I compare it to the previous table, I will learn that it does not depend on income how much buyers spend on jewellery per year!
Well, this is interesting! People answered that quality and uniqueness was a lot more important than price! Comparing it to the previous table this sounds funny. Price does not matter as long as it is less than $200.00!
According to this research I do everything right :) Lots of quality unique jewellery under $200.00 in my online store!
