Inspiration gallery. Top 10 wood carved owls

One of my favourite pieces that I made was a carved owl (and still is). Thanks to my blog follower Kate who mentioned a wood carved owl not far from her home I though it was a great idea to look for an inspiration in the wood owl sculptures. This does not mean that I will ever make another owl one day... but maybe! Who knows :)

Top 10. Doors with the most beautiful hinges

I was absolutely fascinated with these doors when I saw them. They inspire me as a jeweler :)  I also would not mind having a door like this in my home! Which one is your favorite?

My today's post is about my inspiration. My designs for my best pieces are inspired by Russian ornaments (I wrote about it before, here), as well as the technique. This next picture shows how the inspiration worked:

However, only when I saw that knife from  the top picture (the picture is from "The world of knives" book that I bought in Russia) I realized that I could do two layers of piercing. It was going to be double work, but I had time. This is how (sometimes) inspiration is being searched for. Not a simple process! :)

Did I mention I loved pierced works? :) I could not pass by this artist's work. It is handmade, by the way! It is unbelievable, yet inspiring. I would never imaging doing so much piercing for a lamp... and he has tons of them! Maybe... one day... when I have a few free days (I am allowed to dream!) I could make... a small 3D object, probably more of a size of a Christmas tree decoration... :) Hm... I actually have a half-sphere of pierced brass... I know where it was before we moved last summer... Now we are in the middle of renovation and I cannot even go check if it is where I think it is... It will drive me crazy now... :) So, I should finish the post and try to forget about it at least till the end of our renovation :) Do not forget to visit Yahya's web-site. Enjoy!

I have found my inspiration... no, not in jewellery...

Today's post is a little bit about what inspires me. I saw these bracelets in somebody's post and googled the author Zaha Hadid. I expected to find a web-site of a jeweller. I was surprised. She was an architect! The link will take you to the google images results. She has a web-site, but I like just the variety of the pictures that google suggests. Whatever she does is absolutely unbelievable! And very inspiring! Her architecture inspires me as a jeweller. I wish I could describe better how awesome her art is, but any words are going to be not enough. Just follow the link and enjoy!

Vintage Russian designs in my jewellery is inspired by...

 

A few times at different shows I have been asked to look at that book that I have always mentioned when telling about my vintage Russian designs being my inspiration...
 

I was looking at my etsy shop, checking what could be improved, when my eye was caught by a few pictures... That's right! This is the book! It is more than 50 years old now and sure looks like it too :)
