Easy 3 minute DIY: Ring holder

Thursday, April 2, 2015

Today I have a blog guest. This is May whose blog I have been following for a couple of years now. She writes awesome reviews about beauty products and her lifestyle. Her posts are either helpful or fun! Here is what she is saying about her blog and herself:
"Hi! My name is May and I'm the fashion/beauty blogger behind La Vie en May. I love experimenting with different products, styles and colors. My personal style is very feminine and simplistic; I live by the Leonardo Da Vinci quote, "Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication."
Visit May's blog to discover what else she has there to share.

Today May is sharing her fabulous easy giveaway with us. Thank you May!

As I was cleaning my apartment this weekend, I found a lot of old boxes, supplies and other random items lying around. I threw most of that stuff away, but there were a few things I knew I could salvage. One of them was a beautiful case from NARS. It was a part of a holiday lip pencil set I received for Christmas. At the time, I took out all the lip pencils and just left the case on the side. But I love the design and it's really sturdy. I ended up re-purposing it into a ring holder. Check out how easy and quick this DIY is. It only takes 5 minutes and 3 items to create this!

Step 1. Gather all of your materials. All you need is a case or box, foam and scissors. I got the foam from my watch case, but you can buy it at any craft or supply store near you. Unfortunately, the foam didn't fit in the box, it was about half the size. I ended cutting the foam in half horizontally so that it would fit completely in the case.

Step 2. To cut the foam in half, start at one of the four corners. Cut the corner in half. Continue to cut along the edges of the foam. Once you have cut the periphery, use the scissors to cut deeper into the foam until it's cut in half completely. If you have a craft knife, I recommend using that instead for this part.

If your foam piece fits into the case completely, you can skip this step.

Step 3. Take one of the foam pieces and fold the edge over by an inch. Using your scissors, cut vertically on the fold. Leave about half an inch of space and cut again. Keep repeating until you run out of room. Repeat the same process until there's no more room to cut. On my specific foam piece, I was able to cut 12 holes. Do the same for the second foam piece.

Step 4. Put the foam pieces in the case and start putting your rings in. Voila! Your DIY is completely and you have a new, pretty ring holder to use.

Now, I have another ring holder as a part of my ever-growing collection! Yes, I have that many rings...and I ordered more last week. I bought the Bunny Ring Holder from Forever 21 and the Doe Head Ring Holder from Jewel Mint (originally white, I spray painted it gold). Unfortunately, they're both sold out, but I found some pretty similar ones below!
