Bead Day. Art Deco dress from the 1920s

1920's Beaded Flapper Dress. Silver and iridescent sequined fronds and steel beaded vines expertly frame the shoulders and neckline and captivate as they flow through the torso. The bead and the sequin decor makes this dress an art deco masterpiece.

Oh, it's gorgeous! We've got an old photo of Amy Sarsfield in her 'flapper' dress with a long string of beads and a feathered headpiece from the '20s. Nothing as grand as this though - bet it's heavy!

I am jealous of a photo like that! My grandparents' photos were lost in moving across that huge country a couple of times. I barely have any... just a few... Have you ever seen that dress in person?

Unfortunately no, I'd have wanted it for myself except that ahe was a TINY lady! It's sad to lose those old photos, all that history in a snapshot. Luckily (or not, depending on your point of view) Dad never threw anything away!

My family was moving pretty much across the planet (considering Russia's size). I continued the tradition :) Did my best to bring what I could, but almost nothing is an old thing with some history... I have one book that belonged to my grandparents... It is in my blog :) http://magicjewellerybox.blogspot.ca/2013/10/vintage-russian-designs-in-my-jewellery.html

Oh, yes, I recognise that book! Now I know what it is! It's lovely to hang on to some family things - helps give you roots no matter where in the world you are, I think. That sense of belonging is a very primal need in us.

Who would have known that book was a treasure full of jewellery? :)
