Peackock Feather copper necklace with dichroic glass cabochon

Tuesday, April 24, 2012

My peacock feather jewellery obsession continues :) It started accidentally here, when I bought that interestingly shaped labradorite from a local lapidary artist. Then I found one more stone... and one more... Now, when I am getting any stone at all, I estimate if it is going to fit a peacock feather design... This bright dichroic glass cabochon is definitely a good choice!

I loved my first design... but it got sold... As an artist I think that a sale is the best compliment for a designer... but I missed that necklace and tried to replicate it. I always wonder how it happens... I cannot make the same design exactly, no matter how much I try (unless all the parts are exactly the same, and that rarely happens).

So, the stone was different and it "designed" the necklace around itself! My husband just loves it, but the necklace is going to be for sale. I would like to continue experimenting with other stones and other peacock feather designs. I do not need to keep all of them :)

Peackock Feather earrings

Tuesday, April 17, 2012

I made a few different necklaces with the peacock feathers (silver and copper) to satisfy my obsession that I mentioned before :) I needed to complete this project with some earrings.

This is silver earrings with copper "feathers" and cold enamel. It is nice to have a picture on a mannequin... however they do not hang like that from a real ear, of course :) It is more like the bottom picture :)

The earrings are available for sale in my Etsy shop.

Black Swan shawl-necklace (art-project)

The necklace is inspired by the "Black Swan" movie with Natalie Portman. The last dance at the end... with all those feathers... mmm... I instantly wanted a big necklace... very light, 3D and the "feathers" that would move on it.

I needed all the different skills that I accumulated during all these years of making jewellery. There is lots of soldering here, of course. Also: wirework, wire-knitting and beading.

It took awhile to design it in my mind first in order to decide how even start something like this. It needed to be durable and light. The base, however, had to be metal to support the weight of the "feathers".

I fugured it out and got very happy with the result. Now... I just need to find a suitable dress and a party for this necklace! :) or... perhaps... somebody who has the dress and the planned party already :) as the necklace is for sale in my Etsy shop :)

P.S. I was able to use this necklace's ideas in other jewellery pieces that were a little bit more wearable. I have just published them recently... It is the "Fashion Week necklace" and the "Evening necklace".

Update: The necklace is now being displayed at Just Jewellery

Jewellery Masterpieces virtual collection. Asya Eutykh

Thursday, April 5, 2012

I am always in search of inspiration... Usually, I am inspired by the artists (jewellers, carvers, sculptors) whose level of mastership is much more higher than mine... There are many of those artist, of course... There should be something else beyond the mastership, though... I am not sure what exactly, but when I see a talent, I won't forget that artist anymore. If they have a web-site, it is easy to keep returning to it and... admire...

Thanks to a random contact at one of the Russian forums I've learned of Asya Eutykh. It is a very hard-working lady from Maikop, that is a Russian city in Adygea (Caucas). Being a Caucasian artist she has been always interested in ancient art of that region. She is not just a jeweller, but a metal artist who can make pretty much anything. She has even made equipment for the Prince of Jordan Guard once! A talent like hers cannot stay unnoticed by the connoisseurs...

This artist's work is another proof that a talent is not something that is just given to a person... Any talent is a hard work. And that inspires me... I should get back to work now :)

One more thing... This is her web-site. Enjoy!
